Section 106 Sewer Connections in Cornwall

If you are building a new home, converting a property or developing a site in Cornwall, you will usually need a Section 106 application before connecting to the public sewer. Iktin Solutions carries out the excavation, connection and reinstatement work for self-builders, developers and builders across Cornwall and Devon.

What is a Section 106 connection?

Section 106 of the Water Industry Act 1991 gives property owners the right to connect their private drains to the public sewer, subject to the approval of the sewerage undertaker — South West Water in Cornwall. The application is made to South West Water before any work on the public sewer starts.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Section 106 application to connect to the public sewer?

In most cases, yes. Any new direct connection to a public sewer in Cornwall needs approval from South West Water under Section 106 of the Water Industry Act 1991 before the work is carried out.

Who applies for the Section 106 connection?

The application is usually made by the property owner or developer. We can help you gather the drawings and details needed and then carry out the physical connection once it is approved.

What if the sewer is in the road?

Work in the public highway also needs a street works permit or licence from the highway authority. We can plan the traffic management and reinstatement as part of the job.
